History of the CB&Q (Pg. 1)

The Burlington's Lines East
This 155-page book presents a great history of the railroads in the states of Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin. It has 136 photographs, which includes 3 full-color postcard photos. This book provides a brief history of the railroad in each state, and also an outline of the railroad's timetable structure. There are 15 pages of old newspaper articles about the Burlington dating as far back as the 1880's. Read about the Westinghouse air brake tests on West Burlington hill in the 1880's, and the bombing of the Denver Zephyr during World War II. Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri sections each have the following categories: Depots, Steam Engines, Train Wrecks, and Railroaders at Work. The Wisconsin section covers Depots and Steam Engines. This book contains a wealth of history on the railroad's Lines East.

Included are alignment charts for five of the branch lines from Creston, Red Oak, and Hastings. There are 75 photos of depots on Iowa branches.
